When Tiger met Tiger

They say never meet your heroes, but that’s exactly what Robin ‘Tiger’ Williams did today when he was introduced to his idol and namesake Tiger Woods at Le Golf National.

The 17 year old from England, who was born in 2001 – the year that Woods achieved the famous ‘Tiger Slam’ – represented Europe in the Junior Ryder Cup before travelling over to Le Golf National to play in a GolfSixes match today.

After meeting members from both the European and American Ryder Cup teams, Williams and the 23 other teenagers who played in the Junior Ryder Cup met the 14-time Major Champion.

A shocked Williams was overawed to meet Woods – an experience he says he will remember for the rest of his life.

“He’s my hero, I’m named after him and I’m still shaking,” he said. “We had a really good conversation and I am speechless.

“It was great to meet a lot of the Europeans too and chat with them as you normally just see them on TV. They are such nice and chilled guys. I purposely put my bag next to Henrik Stenson’s so I could check out his swing.

“It is amazing to be here and experience these crowds. I have played in a few European Tour events but this is a whole different level with the number of people that were here today.

“We had some good crowds at the Junior Ryder Cup too which really fuelled all of the emotion and the adrenaline, but this is a whole different level.

“This week has been a dream come true and I’m so grateful to get to come here as not many people get this opportunity.”
